Surrey Golf Search For Talent
SURREY GOLF PARTNERSHIP, OPEN TALENT ASSESSMENT DAYS FOR JUNIOR GOLFERS

The Surrey Golf Partnership is launching the second year of the Surrey Futures programme. This county wide coaching programme is aimed at identifying and encouraging talented junior golfers. Funds have been provided to support this initiative through the England Golf Partnership.

This programme is aimed at boys and girls aged 8 to 15, who have talent and interest but who are not part of the present County squad coaching programme. October 2009 will see the first in a series of events in this programme.

The first stage of this programme will be the staging of Open Talent Assessment Days to identify young golfers, boys and girls, who show talent and enthusiasm for the game. SGP is to run two Assessment Days in the week beginning 26 October 2009.

Following these days, it is planned to invite selected young people to move on to a County wide coaching programme based at County Training Academies to provide the necessary coaching support to enable the young golfers to attain their full potential and to have the opportunity to progress to the county junior squads.

The Open Talent Assessment Days will be held during October half term as follows:

Betchworth Park Golf Club Tuesday 27th October 2009
Hoebridge Golf Centre Thursday 29th October 2009

Each day will follow the same pattern. There will be a two hour session of assessment run by county coaches. The sessions will be split into three components, long game, short game and putting. There will be skills challenges plus a short discussion with one of the coaches.

If you know of a junior golfer who would benefit from this initiative, please encourage them to register for one of the Open Assessment Days.

Further Background Information
The Surrey Futures programme is a Sport England / England Golf National Training Initiative
The National Training Initiative will deliver the following key outcomes:
1. Enhancing the quality of coaching across the development spectrum.
2. Enhancing the quality of the players developing in the club network which will ensure that better quality players emerge into the full county ranks.
3. Identifying the best coaches within the county so that young players and their parents can be signposted to these coaches if they do not have appropriate coaching provision within their locality.
4. More youngsters retained in the sport leading to increased participation levels for junior players as well as in the adult ranks.
5. To increase the number of people involved in coaching at all levels of the development system.
6. To develop existing coaches through specific training programmes and individualised development opportunities.

Sub Committees
As the Surrey Golf Partnership are looking to drive golf in Surrey forward and as the second phase of funding comes through from Sport England, it is felt it is the right time to introduce a couple of sub committees. The Surrey Golf Partnership was formed just over 2 years ago and is a collection of the Surrey County Golf Union, Surrey Ladies Golf Association, PGA, English Golf Union & English Womens Association with the support of the Golf Foundation. The partnership now works as one to push golf forward rather than before each section doing their own thing. The two sub committees or action groups for a better word will look to help with the Start in golf and Stay aspects of the game. Their main roles would be to support the county's County Development Officer with educating golf Clubs better and help to promote the game and any projects that come about from the partnership. The action groups will involve about a day a month volunteering and will consist of meetings and spreading the word and assisting events, etc. If you are interested in getting involved and feel you can really help to drive this great game forward in Surrey then please email your interest to Andy Little at andy@surreygolf.org.
